Are Mobile Phones Going To Replace Mp3 Players?
Our gadgets are getting smarter, smaller and sexier, and that trend is only going to continue. The iPod is a textbook example of this, when it was first launched then it was bulky and could only hold a limited number of songs, now they are tiny and can hold more songs than you will ever need, plus they can play videos etc.
The future lies with devices that can do everything we need though, it will seem antiquated to have a device to take pictures and another to listen to music on etc. We are already starting to see that with the new smart phones which can take quality pictures and play music while doing everything a phone can normally do and allow you seamless access to the internet. While there is a limit to how small you can make a gadget, after all you don't want your phone too small or how will you press the buttons and having a small screen is a negative thing not a positive one, then they will get lighter and thinner over time which is one area they can improve.
Another thing is personalization, at the moment you can buy extra cases for your phone if you want to change how it looks, but in the future I hope they work out a way to make the case customizable from within the phone. They could maybe use AMOLED technology and graphene to create an exterior to the phone which could actually display whatever you wanted. Then you could download designs and have them displayed on the outside of your phone, or just have your favorite pics showing etc. With that kind of technology it would then be easy to match your phone to your outfit and if you have other brightly colored gadgets on you like pink headphones (visit PinkHeadphones.org for a great selection) then they can match them too.
Will they ever replace our desktop computers though? I really don't see phones becoming the main computers we use, for a start then while they are getting more and more powerful then they will always lag behind the power of a real desktop computer, just like laptops do. Also they just aren't as comfortable to use, they are ok when you are on the train or walking around, but when you get home you don't want to use it. I think that tablets could replace a traditional computer for a lot of people, just because they are a lot easier to use and less complicated, and yet they still have the power to do a lot of the things that people require of them like browse the web and edit or view photos. At the moment though you need both a computer and a tablet so they can sync with each other, or at least you do with the iPad, hopefully soon they will dispense with that as it seems a shame to force people to have both.
I think there are exciting times ahead, particularly with the increase in bandwidth that the new 4G (or nearly 4G) standards are promising. Suddenly you'll be getting internet as fast on your phone as your broadband at home which will make video so much more accessible on your phone, then you can stream movies while you are waiting at the airport so you'll never be bored waiting around again!
